Ajay Narang

Senior developer. Solution architect. AI-native builder.

Most people building with AI are learning to ship production software at the same time. I spent seventeen years on that first - banking systems for US credit unions, six years on-site in San Antonio, releases where a bad deploy costs members real money - and I am building AI systems on top of it now. Two of them are live and you can open them below.

Open to senior developer, lead, solution architecture and AI platform roles, plus fractional and advisory engagements with early teams. Still hands-on in the codebase every day.

I ship AI systems that hold up in production

Sally runs dispatch, compliance and back-office for small US trucking fleets on 100+ MCP tools, with an open MCP server so customers operate their fleet from any AI client. Multi-tenant, live, and built the way a banking system is built.

I architect platforms teams live inside for years

Solution architect on a greenfield, multi-tenant, multi-language commerce platform for Imperial Brands at Publicis Sapient. Tenant isolation, localisation and shared services across markets, plus the non-functional side: security, observability, CI/CD.

I have done it where mistakes are expensive

Seventeen years at Fiserv building online banking, onboarding and mortgage origination for US credit unions, six of them on-site in San Antonio. Those systems are still running.

Work

Independent · 2020 – present

Everything I have built outside an employer: two products I own, and two platforms I architected for founders. Three of the four are live and you can open them.

Sally. An AI operating system for trucking fleets

Founder, architect, and engineer ·  2025 – present

100+
MCP tools in production

Small US fleets run dispatch, compliance, documents and back-office through Sally instead of a stack of portals. 100+ MCP tools, model-agnostic across Mastra and Vercel AI Gateway. Sally runs her own MCP server with OAuth, so a customer can operate their fleet from Claude Desktop or ChatGPT using their own credentials, with a full audit trail. Sally's Desk gives each agent a role, an inbox and a track record, supervised rather than autonomous.

Tournax. Multi-sport club operations

Founder, architect, and engineer ·  2025 – present

14
sports, from racquet to team to board

A club runs a badminton open on Saturday, a chess night in the hall and a cricket knockout on Sunday. That usually lives in four WhatsApp groups and a spreadsheet nobody can find. Tournax runs all of it: entries, UPI fees, seeded draws that generate themselves, order of play across every court, board and ground, and a match desk that keeps working when the hall wifi dies. Fourteen sports, each played its own way - chess keeps its draws, cricket fields a squad, a road race has a finish line rather than a bracket. Coaching batches, attendance and monthly fees run on the same phone.

Farmlokal. Organic-products commerce

Backend architect ·  2023 – present

Backend architecture for an Indian D2C startup: catalogue, orders and fulfilment, designed so a small team could keep shipping without rebuilding the foundation.

GrocersPod. Online retail, full build

Architect and engineer ·  2020 – present

Built the platform end to end with the founder, across consumer, rider and admin surfaces.

Employed · 2007 – 2026

Systems built inside large organisations, where the architecture has to survive several teams and a decade of change. Solution architect at Publicis Sapient on the Imperial Brands engagement, and seventeen years at Fiserv before that, six of them on-site in San Antonio.

Imperial Brands. Multi-tenant commerce platform

Senior Technical Manager, Solution Architect  ·  Publicis Sapient ·  Apr 2025 – Apr 2026

Solution architect on a greenfield, multi-tenant, multi-language commerce platform spanning several markets. Designed the architecture end to end: tenant isolation, content modelling, localisation and shared platform services, on a MERN stack with Salesforce as the data layer and a headless CMS for authoring. Owned the non-functional side too, from observability and security to CI/CD and Kubernetes delivery, and mentored engineering leads across workstreams.

How I work with early teams

The way I work with early teams looks like the Farmlokal and GrocersPod engagements above. I sit with the founder for a few weeks, get the architecture somewhere the team can move fast without painting themselves into a corner, and ship the first version with them. After that I either step back to a lighter advisory cadence or stay on as a fractional architect. Either way the goal is the same: make the team faster, not more dependent on me.

What people I've worked with say

An exceptional software architect. Technical expertise, professionalism, and integrity in everything he ships.

About

I started out in Delhi writing travel booking software, before "full-stack" was a job title. In 2007 I joined Fiserv. Over the next seventeen years I shipped financial software for US banks and credit unions: online banking, mortgage origination, account processing, payment gateways. Six of those years I spent on-site in San Antonio, leading teams through the kind of releases where a bad deploy costs people real money.

The systems I led are still in production. New Member Online cut roughly a million dollars out of one credit union's onboarding cost. RBFCU's online banking is what their members log into. The mortgage origination integration is what their loan officers use. None of it is glamorous. All of it had to work.

In 2020 I moved back to India as Advisor II at Fiserv, and in 2024 I left. From April 2025 to April 2026 I was Senior Technical Manager and solution architect at Publicis Sapient on the Imperial Brands engagement: a greenfield, multi-tenant, multi-language commerce platform on a MERN stack with Salesforce as the data layer. The shape of the problem was different from banking, but the discipline was the same. A system several teams will live inside for years, where the early architecture decisions decide how much pain arrives later.

In parallel I've been working with Indian early-stage founders. Backend architecture for Farmlokal (organic-products e-commerce) and a full React-and-backend build for GrocersPod. Both are live and growing.

Since then I have been building full-time. Sally is an AI operating system for small US trucking fleets that does the work rather than tracking it: chat-first, 100+ MCP tools, model-agnostic across Mastra and Vercel AI Gateway, with her own OAuth MCP server so customers can run their fleet from any AI client. Tournax came out of playing badminton and watching club organisers rebuild seeded draws in spreadsheets every season; it now runs fourteen sports, from cricket and football to chess and road races. Both are live. Alongside them I take a small number of advisory and fractional engagements.

A lot of people building AI products today are learning to ship software while learning AI. I came at it the other way around. Seventeen years shipping production systems first, AI second. Both halves matter. I happen to have done them in that order.
